About me – a short ‘pen profile’!
It began at the age of 14 when, having read the ‘lesson’ during school assembly on numerous occasions, and showing a flair for acting in school plays, a teacher entered me for a national speech and drama competition. Without me realising – until I stood up at the lectern – he had entered me, by mistake, for the 16 and over age group (I wondered why my competitors looked bigger and older!), but happily I still managed to win!
During my professional life, I have always enjoyed delivering presentations and in my spare time, I took part in several amateur dramatic performances.
At last, in March 2019 at a ‘mature’ age (precisely what I mean by that will remain my secret!), I started my voice-over career following intensive one-to-one coaching from the brilliant Gary Terzza, an experienced voice coach with a long successful history in TV presentation.
Since then, I have set up a recording studio in my home in Cumbria in the north of England. Following successful auditions, I have completed numerous audiobooks, most of which are available through ‘Audible’ and which have received excellent reviews across the UK and US. And I have undertaken many other smaller voice-over projects for clients around the world, including business promotions and communications, book reviews, documentary narration, online learning courses, product commercials, telephone messages, voices for video games…..and many more.
About my voice.
I have a strong, clear, mid-range male British voice with a neutral accent that is reassuring for commercials, authoritative for corporate announcements, engaging and friendly for e-Learning, whilst having the range and versatility needed for the narration of audio books for adults or children and for internet videos. I can adapt my voice, tone and accent to suit the widest range of requirements.
In my audiobook work, I give every character, no matter how small, their own unique voice and personality. I research accents where necessary and use my ‘voice acting’ skills to bring the story to life. The result is rather like a radio drama, except that only one person is playing each and every role!
